Silk Route of China 18 Days

Silk Route or Silk Road was the ancient trade route through various regions of the Asian continent that connected China with Asia Minor and the Mediterranean. It has been in existence for centuries, and was the main trading route between Europe and the Far East.

The trade on the Silk route was a significant factor in the development of the great civilizations.

This tour will lead you along the Chinese portion of the Silk Route and you will enjoy the diverse nature of the surroundings and the people.

Day 01 Arrive Beijing

Upon arrival in Beijing, you will be met and transferred to hotel.

Rest of the afternoon or evening at leisure.

Overnight in Beijing.

Day 02 Tour of Beijing

MEAL: Breakfast/Lunch

Meet your guide in the morning and explore the city. Visit Tian'anmen Square, the largest urban square and Forbidden City, the largest and most complete ancient imperial palace in the world.

Afternoon visit Temple of Heaven.

In the evening, we recommend the beautiful Peking Opera Or Kungfu Show t as an optional activity.

Overnight in Beijing.

Day 03 Tour of Beijing

MEAL: Breakfast/Lunch

After breakfast, meet your guide and drive to Great Wall, a massive defensive structure built to keep intruders from entering the mainland. Today you will have the opportunity to traverse the ancient steps of Mutianyu Great Wall.

In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Beijing downtown. You will have a picture stop at Olympic Green, to have a short exterior view of Bird Nest and Water Cube.  

In the evening, we recommend  the famous Peking Roasted Duck for your optional dinner.

Day 04 Fly Beijing -Lanzhou

MEAL: Breakfast/Lunch

After breakfast, you can have a leisure walk with our local guide to explore the Hutong area in Beijing, and enjoy the local people’s life.

After lunch, you will be transferred to take the afternoon flight to Lanzhou, the capital city of Gansu Province, where your local guide will pick you up and transfer you to hotel.

Overnight in Lanzhou.

Day 05 Overland Lanzhou-Bingling Grottoes-Lanzhou

MEAL: Breakfast/Lunch

From today, you will start your silk road tour to explore the rich Chinese historical and cultural treasure.

Morning visit must-see sites, which includes White Pagoda Hill Park, and then drive to Liujiaxia, take yacht to visit Bingling Thousand-Buddha Caves.

Return to Lanzhou for overnight.

Day 06 Overland Lanzhou-Wuwei

MEAL: Breakfast/lunch

Today after breakfast, visit Gansu Provincial Museum (closed every Monday).

Then continue  to Wuwei and visit Tiantishan Grottoes. 

Overnight in Wuwei.   

Day 07 Overland Wuwei-Zhangye

MEAL: Breakfast/Lunch

Today, after breakfast, enjoy your visit to Leitai Tomb and Wuwei Wen Miao (Confucian Temple). After the tour, drive to Zhangye and visit Zhangye Danxia Landform Park to enjoy the beautiful sunset.

Overnight in Zhangye.

Day 08 Overland Zhangye-Jiayuguan City

MEAL: Breakfast/Lunch

In the morning, visit Wooden Tower of Sui Dynasty and Grand Buddha Temple which is home to China largest indoor reclining Buddha.

Later continue to Jiayuguan City. 

Overnight in Jiayuguan City.

Day 09 Overland Jiayuguan City -Dunhuang

MEAL: Breakfast/Lunch

In the morning, you will take a truly special excursion to Jiayuguan Pass and Overhanging Great Wall. And then drive to Dunhuang and take a rest in the afternoon.  En route, enjoy the fascinating view of Gobi desert. 

Overnight in Dunhuang.

Day 10 Dunhuang: Yumenguan Pass & Dunhuang Yadan National Geologic Park

MEAL: Breakfast/Lunch

Today after breakfast, first take a 3-hour driving to the Yumenguan Pass (30 min) - strategic pass on the ancient Silk Road. And then, continue to experience the amazing Dunhuang Yadan National Geologic Park (1 hour) - the largest one of Yadan Landform found so far.

in the afternoon, drive back to the Dunhuang downtown. 

Overnight in Dunhuang.

Day 11 Dunhuang: Mogao Grottoes

MEAL: Breakfast/Lunch

Today, you will visit to Mogao Grottoes (2 hours) - which is considered the great treasure house of Buddhist arts in existence.

After lunch, visit of Mingsha Sand Dunes (Crescent Spring and Sighing Sand Dune) -2 hours. It is said that Singing Sand Dune (Mingsha Hill) helps people free from all worries and Crescent Spring purifies people's minds. 

Overnight in Dunhuang.

Day 12 Dunhuang to Liuyuan and train to Turpan

MEAL: Breakfast/Dinner

After breakfast, transfer to Liuyuan train station (3 hours), and take a high speed train to Turpan.

Arrival at Turpan in Xinjiang, you will be greeted by your tour guide and transferred to hotel.

Dinner at a local family home.

Overnight in Turpan.

Day 13 Overland Turpan - Urumqi

MEAL: Breakfast/Lunch

Morning take a drive to Turpan (200 km, 2 - 2.5 driving. On the way, you will pass Urumqi Wind Power Mill, which was built for producing electrical power in the area. After crossing the valley of Tianshan, we will arrive in the city of Turpan City. Upon arrival, visit the mysterious death city, the Ruins of Jiaohe Ancient City, which reveals traces of a prosperous ancient trading center and military stronghold 1,600 years ago.

And then visit Emin Minaret (Sugong Pagoda) - the biggest ancient pagoda existing in Xinjiang and the only Islamic ancient pagoda in the country and ancient Karez Well, the underground water supply and irrigation system. A special dinner is arranged under grape trellis in a local family's house. 

Overnight in Urumqi.

Day 14 Overland Turpan Urumqi and then fly to Kashgar

MEAL: Breakfast/Lunch

Take another excursion to Turpan , which includes Gaochang Ancient City, which was an important garrison town on the Silk Road, and  Flaming Mountain which seems to be on fire in the burning sun and becomesa purplish-brown color, and Bezeklik Caves.

After the tour, transfer back to Urumqi (200km, 2 - 2.5 driving) and fly back to Kashgar.  

Overnight at Kashgar.

Day 15 Kashgar: Karakul Lake

MEAL: Breakfast/Lunch

Take a tour through the Karakurum Highway to Karakul Lake, enjoy the beautiful snow- capped mountain of Muztagh Ata and the lake.

After the tour, drive back to Kashgar.

In the evening walk around and explore the local market.

Overnight at Kashgar.

Day 16 Kashgar ( Sunday)

MEAL: Breakfast/Lunch

Today visit to Zhiren Street, an old street with an amazing hand-made stuff from strictly utilitarian cookware to exotic musical instruments. Then continue your trip to Id Kah Mosque, which is one of the largest and busiest in China. Then, you can take a short visit to Apak Hoja Tomb.

If it is Sunday, the local Bazaar will be a good place for you to have a visit. This ancient market attracts locals and merchants from all over Xinjiang and nearby countries such as Pakistan and Kirghizstan. 

Overnight in Kashgar.

Day 17 Fly Kashgar -Urumqi

MEAL: Breakfast/Lunch

After breakfast in the hotel, take the morning flight back to Urumqi.

In the afternoon, drive 120 km northeast to visit the holy Heavenly Lake (Tianchi) (3 hours) , the beautiful lake is flanked by rugged pines and cypresses, with clear melting waters reflecting the surrounding of snow capped mount Bogeda. Then enjoy walking in Erdaoqiao Grand Bazaar, which is believed to be the largest outdoor market in town. 

Overnight in Urumqi.

Day 18 Fly Urumqi-Beijing- U.S.

MEAL: Breakfast

After breakfast, transfer to airport and fly to Beijing and connect your fligh to to U.S. or extend your trip to other parts in China or Asia.
