Traveling overland in safari style, the journey takes you to the ancient capital at Karakorum, where you will visit the legendary 15th century Erdene Zuu monastery and the 6th century stone monuments from the Turkic state. Then you visit the amazing Gun-Galuut, home to many endangered species of wildlife.

Landscape and cultural sightseeing blend easily in Mongolia – you will have the chance to visit families of nomads, remote Buddhist monasteries and traditional events, and to take part in horse-riding or guided walking if you wish – there are also endless opportunities for photography.

Day 01 ARRIVAL IN ULAANBAATAR, TOUR OF THE CITY

MEAL: Lunch

Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, meet your guide at the airport after custom formalities and transfer to the hotel.

 

The city tour of Ulaanbaatar takes you through some of the principal sights of this unique city. Visit the Gandan Monastery, housing a 26 meter high gilded statue of the Buddha. Your tour also takes you to the Genghis Khan monument on the Sukhbaatar square and the Museum of National History, which has a number of fascinating displays of traditional Mongolian clothing and weaponry, as well as exhibits charting the course of Genghis Khan's empire-building. 

 

Overnight Ulaanbaatar.

Day 02 ULAANBAATAR- ELSEN TASARKHAI SAND DUNES

MEAL: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

After breakfast at the hotel, overland to the west toward Karakorum, the ancient capital city of Mongolia.

 

Transfer to camp near the Mongol Els Sand Dunes. Optional hiking in Khogno Khaan with a visit to the Ovgon monastery ruins. Camel riding for 1 – 2 hr. 

 

Overnight Ger Camp.

Day 03 ELSEN TASARKHAI -KARAKORUM

MEAL: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Breakfast and we drive to ancient capital Karakorum. We visit legendary monastery Erdene Zuu, the first Buddhist monastery in Central Mongolia founded in 1586, Museum of Karakorum and its surroundings the Turtle Rock and the Phallic stone etc. In the afternoon we will visit the newly established Museum of Karakorum which gives a good introduction to Central Mongolia, its’ history and the UNESCO world heritage site Orkhon river valley. 

 

Karakorum, the ancient capital of Mongolia was established by Genghis Khan in 1220 in the Orkhon valley. For 140 years Kharkhorin served as the capital of the United Mongol tribes until it was destroyed by the Chinese troops in 1391. The remains of the capital that stood at the crossroads of the Silk Road are extensive underground archaeological assets and two granite turtles that once stood at the main gate to the city. Four of these turtle sculptures used to mark the boundaries of ancient Kharkhorin, acting as protectors of the city (turtles are considered symbols of eternity).

Day 04 KARAKORUM -TSENKHER HOT SPRINGS

MEAL: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Breakfast and we drive to Tsenkher hot springs. On the way, we’ll visit to nomadic families who are residing along Tamir river, experience their way of nomadic lifestyle and try dairy products. Arrive in hot springs, here you spend a night away from your road, in lodgings near the healing hot springs. Relax and reinvigorate. And enjoy hot bath in the evening.

Day 05 TSENKHER HOT SPRINGS -LAKE OGII

MEAL: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

This morning, we’ll head to the north for Lake Ogii via Khoshoo Tsaidam monument which is archeological findings of ancient Turkic empire in VI – VIII century. Arrive in Lake Ogii, check into ger camp, enjoy 2 hr of horse riding along the lake shore.

 

Dinner and overnight at Ger Camp.

Day 06 LAKE OGII- HUSTAI NATIONAL PARK

MEAL: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

After breakfast we drive to Hustai National Park, one of the most popular national parks of Mongolia through the rolling steppes.  Arrive in Hustai view the wonderful Takhi wild horses and other wildlife. Optional hiking around the hill. 

 

Overnight Ger Camp.

Day 07 HUSTAI NATIONAL PARK - ULAANBAATAR

MEAL: Breakast/Lunch/Dinner

After breakfast we drive back to Ulaanbaatar for 2 hours. Then we visit the Bogd Khaan’s Palace Museum – the residence of the last king of Mongolia and the Buddha Park. Enjoy traditional folklore concert by the magical Tumen Ekh ensemble. Farewell dinner at Ulaanbaatar.

Day 08 Ulaanbaatart- Departure or extend your trip to China /Tibet

MEAL: Breakfast

Transfer to airport and fly back home or extend your trip to Tibet, China.
