Nawam Perehera & Cultural Tour, Sri Lanka - 12 days

Nawam Perehera - Year after year, around every Nawam Poya day (the full moon day in the month of February) the streets of Colombo are transformed into a vibrant and colourful pageant of whip crackers, fire dancers, elephants, traditional Kandyan dancers, drummers, flutists and many things exotic; many things uniquely Sri Lankan.


Around one hundred and fifty groups of various traditional artists from all parts of the island parade along the streets of Colombo at this annual pageant which brings together a diversity of artists. Popularly referred to as “Nawam Perahera”, this annual event is organised by Gangaramaya, probably the most scenic Buddhist temple in the heart of Colombo.

  • Day 01 Arrive Colombo


    Upon arrival in Colombo, you will welcomed and greeted by representatives of Third Eye Travel  and transferred to your hotel in Colombo


    Colombo - is the largest city and former capital of Sri Lanka. It is located on the west coast of the island and adjacent to  Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte, the capital. Like many cities, Colombo\'s urban area extends well beyond the boundaries of a single local authority, encompassing other municapal and Urban Councils. The main city is home to a majority of the Sri Lanka\'s corporate offices, restaurants and entertainment venues.

    Nawam Perehera - Most Colorful and Prestigious Buddhist Cultural Pageant held in Sri Lanka Annually the Colombo Nawam Maha Perahera, held in February The Colombo Nawam Maha Perahera a Grand Pageant of Elephants, Dancers and Entertainment held to celebrate a Religious Event takes place on the Full Moon Day of February, every year. The Colombo Nawam Maha Perahera is one of the most important religious and cultural events in Sri Lanka. Mi1lions of people view this spectacle every year including an estimated 10,000 Tourists. Seating accommodation for 1,000,000 persons is provided without charge on both days.

    Day 03 Colombo - Habarana


    After your breakfast, transfer to Habarana. En route, visit Dambulla Cave Temples


    Dambulla Cave Temple - (also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla) is a World Heritage Site (1991) in Sri Lanka situated in the central part of the country. This site is situated 148 km east of Colombo and 72 km north of Kandy. It is the largest and best preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. There are more than 80 documented Caves in the surrounding area. These paintings and statues are related to Lord Buddha and his life. There are total of 153 Buddha statues, 3 statues of Sri Lankan kings and 4 statues of gods and goddesses.

    Day 04 Habarana


    After your breakfast from the hotel visit Pollonnaruwa Ancient city.


    Pollonnaruwa - The Capital of Sri Lanka from 11th -13th Century contains some splendid and spectacular statues. Lankatileke, Tivanka and Thuparama are the most beautiful and largest shrine ruins and Tivanka has the best example of frescoes of the Polonnaruwa period. Rankot Vihara and Kiriwehera are well preserved large stupas, and Gal Vihare - a rock shrine, has four Buddha statues, two seated, one standing and one reclining and Parakrama Bahu statue are examples of Sinhalese stone carver.


    Transfer back to hotel, En Route, visit Minneriya National Park & enjoy a 4x4 Jeep Safari

    Day 05 Habarana


    After your breakfast from the hotel visit the Anuradhapura Ancient city.


    Anuradhapura, Although people may have lived in this area since as early as the 10th century BC, Anuradhapura became a great city after the arrival of a cutting from the Bodhi Tree (\'tree of enlightenment\'), the Buddha\'s fig tree, in the 3rd century BC. The sacred branch was brought to Sri Lanka by Sanghamitta, the founder of an order of Buddhist nuns. Anuradhapura went on to become a Ceylonese political and religious capital (4th century BC) that flourished for 1,300 years.


    Afternoon transfer back to the Hotel.

    Day 06 Habarana - Kandy


    After your breakfast from the hotel, you will then transfer to Kandy. En rout visit Sigiriya Rock


    Sigiriya – is a “UNESCO World Heritage Site” and the 5th Century “Fortress in the Sky” which is perhaps the most fantastic single wonder of the Island. It is also known as Lion Rock because of the huge lion that used to stand at the entrance to the Palace on the summit of the 600-foot high rock. On its summit are the foundations of the Royal Palace, Water Tanks to supply water and all other buildings and at the edges the guardhouses. On one of the stairways the only known ancient work of Sinhala secular painting survived in the form of Frescoes of 21 life sized damsels still shining in their original colours. The Water Gardens, Fountain Garden, Summerhouses, Boulder Gardens and the Caves within the enclosed area should not be missed.

    Day 07 Kandy


    After breakfast visit the Kandy Tooth Temple and Botanical gardens


    Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic  - ever since 4th Century A.D, when the Buddha’s Tooth was brought to Sri Lanka hidden from sacrilegious hands in an Orissan princess’ hair, the Relic has grown in repute and holiness in Sri Lanka and throughout the Buddhist world. It is considered Sri Lanka’s most prized possession. 


    Royal Botanical Gardens - Started in 1374 as a pleasure garden of the Kings of Gampola and Kandy.  There are more than 5,000 species of trees, plants and creepers. Some rare and endemic as well as flora from the tropical world are found in the gardens.  Spice Garden and Orchid House are popular with tourists. There are 5 Palm Avenues beautifying the gardens, the earliest and tallest Palm Avenue (Royal Palm Avenue) was planted in 1905 and the Double Coconuts from the Seashells Island, with the largest seed of all plants in the world is one such avenue.

    Day 08 Kandy -  Nuwara Eliya


    After breakfast transfer to Nuwara Eliya. Evening visit Hakgala Gardens.


    Nuwara Eliya – Blessed with salubrious climate, breathtaking views of valleys, meadows, mountains and greenery; it\'s hard to imagine that Nuwara Eliya is only 180 Km from the hot and humid Colombo. Nuwara Eliya (City of Lights), also known as \'Little\' England\', was the favorite hill station of the British who tried to create Nuwara Eliya into a typical English.

    Day 09 Nuwara Eliya - Yala Village


    After breakfast transfer to Yala

    Day 10 Yala - Galle
